Pearl Resorts Of Tahiti: Eco-Caring Together

The only fully Polynesian-owned hotel collection, Pearl Resorts of Tahiti shares its passion for our islands and their lifestyle. A lifestyle rooted in respect for nature, as powerful as it is fragile.

That is why Pearl Resorts of Tahiti has created an environmental charter, shared by all its properties and mindful of the specificities of each archipelago. We named it P.R.O.T.E.C.T, for Pearl Resorts of Tahiti: Eco-Caring Together.

A strategy to help preserve the beauty of French Polynesia based on 6 main principles:

  • Water and energy efficiency
  • Waste reduction and management
  • Biodiversity protection
  • Sustainable purchases
  • Awareness-raising
  • Social commitment

OUR ACTIONS

Our hotels are designed to blend in with their environment, and favor the use of natural materials – wood, bamboo, mother-of-pearl, pandanus leaves, tapa, coconut fiber, stones and coral.

We have implemented in all our hotels simple actions to contribute to the protection of terrestrial and marine biodiversity, to encourage local producers in a virtuous approach, and to support the craftspeople who keep our traditions alive.

The Pearl Resorts of Tahiti are partly solar-powered. In Bora Bora, we launched the Okeanos Pearl, the first luxury solar-powered catamaran, respectful of the lagoon and completely silent. We also acquired 2 boats with electric propulsion system for our hosts airport transfers.

We partner with several environmental NGOs. With Espace Bleu, Le Bora Bora and Le Taha'a are home to coral nurseries that contribute to the good health of our lagoons. With Manu, Polynesia’s ornithological society, Le Tikehau works to protect the nesting sites of endemic and migratory birds.

Composting enriches the vegetable patches where we grow our aromatic herbs, fruit and vegetables, and our chefs favor products from local organic farming and short supply chains.

In the outer islands, we have replaced in-room plastic water bottles with complimentary reusable flasks and water fountains. Our disposable tableware is biodegradable or fully recyclable. In Tahiti, a glass crusher recycles bottles into construction sand. LED lightbulbs are the norm in all of our resorts. Recycling is encouraged by sorting bins. Our Tiki Parfumerie toiletries are environment-friendly and locally made.

Lastly, we make a point of supporting local culture and jobs. The Pearl Resorts of Tahiti boutiques showcase the most beautiful creations from Polynesian craftspeople, who also offer many cultural activities. We also nurture the development of our own staff, many of whom are artisans and artists, or accomplished athletes.

We invite our clients to participate in the protection of our exceptional environment through a daily 200 xpf contribution billed to their room. While optional, this modest token will have a great impact as it is entirely donated to sustainable development projects in our islands.

TOGETHER, LET'S TAKE IT A STEP FORWARD!

A few simple things to keep our islands beautiful:

  • use eco-friendly sunscreen (available at the resort's boutiques)
  • do not feed bread to fish in the lagoon
  • be careful not to touch or step on corals
  • help us with sustainable water and power usage by avoiding daily changes of bedsheets and towels

MĀURUURU. Thank you.
